About Reverend Peter Misso

Rev Peter A Misso and his wife Elizabeth Anne

In 1998 he relocated to Melbourne, Victoria and continued to serve as the Director of Teen Challenge Melbourne. Rev Peter is an ordained minister with the New Life Evangelical Church Melbourne and serves as the Congregational Pastor for the English Congregation [Youth/Young Adults] simultaneously held the position of Senior Minister of NLE Church.

On the 28^th February 2017, Rev Peter Misso relinquished all his positions and responsibilities in Church to answer to the call of God to take on a different focus of Ministry.

Besides preaching and teaching, Rev. Peter Misso conducts seminars and workshops in the training of Youth and Young adult leaders. He is very passionate about nurturing and mentoring future leaders of the Church.

Rev Peter A Misso and his wife Elizabeth Anne have three teenage sons, Leroy 27 years, Shannon 22 years and Jan 20 years and they live in Melbourne, Victoria.

On Christmas Eve, 24 Dec 2016, we gathered in unison, holding hands and praying just once more, for the word of God to be seeded into the hearts of those who would be attending the church’s first theatrical production. Titled, “The Gift”, the story revolves around two neighbouring families of different faith depicting issues faced by the youths of today and the day-to-day struggles of the family unit. The Gift is inspired by the true story of our Senior Pastor, Rev. Patrick Cheong, whom God graciously redeemed after a failed suicide attempt.

During the 40-minute performance, conversations between cast members were kept colloquial and in typical Singlish, meant to engage the diverse age-groups present in the audience. While the audience displayed their emotions through the different scenes, they however did not know the difficulty cast members faced in acting out the final two tear-jerking scenes. For months – during rehearsals, the portrayal of melancholy and grief was middling and the actors could hardly evoke emotions out of anyone. Not so for the actual performance. Members in the audience could be seen shedding tears and dabbing away at their eyes. Truly it is not by our might, but through the work of the Holy Spirit tugging at heart-strings.

Melody, recounted her experience as one of the main actors, “I knew God’s Presence was so strong. It felt so different because I was able to get into character. He was the One who gave me the strength and courage to act out my role.”Nigel, another important cast, noted that God was “working to fill in the gaps”. He said: “It wasn’t a tale of the best performance, script or actors. The imperfection of the preparation reflected the truth — nobody is perfect except God.”

The Gift isn’t your typical Christmas story – the depiction of the nativity scene and Christ’s birth. It’s message rather is that Christ is God’s greatest gift bestowed upon us, and His gift of life has given all an eternal hope and salvation – if we choose to believe.

Is Christmas a pagan festival where santa claus and his elves march out in celebration, and to “judge” people by their deeds? Is Christmas a season of feasting, shopping and revelry? Or, is Christmas a money-spinning machine? Rather, let Christmas be a poignant reminder of the purpose of the birth of Christ – that the Son of God took on human flesh, paid a price no one could afford and conquered death, so that all may have the gift of eternal life.

Camp Speaker: Pastor Guna

Pastor Guna received Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior in October 1981 and was called to full time ministry in 1983. At the time of his conversion, he surrendered his life and struggles to Jesus and was completely set free from drug and alcohol addiction and from satanic oppression. His life was amazingly transformed by the miraculous power of Jesus Christ, and he began to boldly preach and testify about the saving, healing and delivering power of Jesus.

After attending Bible school in Singapore, he became a pastor and served at his local church in Singapore until 1993. In 1993, God called him to serve in Okinawa, Japan. He and his family served as missionaries in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years, and in 1996, he was called to Tokyo, Japan. Since then Pastor Guna and his wife Jey have been faithfully serving as senior pastors of Victory Christian Center Japan. They have outreach churches in Nagoya and Narita and also do missions work in East Timor and Davao City, Philippines. They firmly believe God has called them to Japan, and their ministry is validated by the life -changing experiences of many individuals in Japan.

They have two children Chris and Abby. Chris lives in Singapore with his wife Cathy and their son Zakk. Their daughter Abby lives in Springfield, Missouri with her husband Zach.

Camp Mandarin Interpreter: Reverend Susan Quek-Seow

Susan Quek-Seow is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. She holds a Master in Theological Studies (MTS) and is presently a candidate for Doctor of Ministry Program in Singapore Bible College.

She served God as a marketplace minister until 1998 when she answered her full-time call and joined Elim Church as a missionary in training.

Susan served alongside Dr Margaret Seaward as a soul care pastor in ministering to the emotionally afflicted and distressed. She was also a family life counsellor.

She preaches in English, Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese in interdenominational churches.  She also taught in Tung Ling Bible School (SOM Chinese Program) and Holy Grace Bible School.

In 2008, she obeyed the Holy Spirit’s to minister to the Body of Christ both locally and globally. She preached and taught in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, China and South-East Asia

She started the Torchbearer Ministries in accordance to the mandate God has given her to bring the fire of the Holy Spirit to set hearts aflame so that they can arise and shine for Jesus.

Camp Sunday School Teachers: Pastor Maggie Krishnan & Sis Carene Krishnan

Pastor Maggie Krishnan is from Calvary Life Assembly, Melaka. She has been involved in Children’s Ministry for many years, and has an ever-growing passion for children to be raised up in a godly way. God has anointed her to bring forth Gospel truths to children in creative and fresh ways.

Carene Krishnan is also from the same church and shares the same passion as her mum. It is their joy to be part of People’s Church Camp 2016, and are looking forward to the camp.

This coming Christmas, the Heartbeat Youth Ministry of The People’s Church invites you to a Christmas production titled, ‘The Gift’.

The Gift tells the story of a teenage girl and her struggle with relationship issues, and how a father contemplates taking his life over his debt crisis but is miraculously saved by the power of prayer.

The People’s Church had a three-day seminar on Intercessory Prayer led by Reverend Dr Margaret Seaward as part of the Church’s 8th anniversary celebration. Everyone was greatly blessed; many were touched by the Lord and some were even baptised with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

It was neither a church outing nor a buffet with good food but The People’s Church celebrated her 8^th anniversary by having a three day Seminar on Intercessory Prayer from 5^th August 2016 to 7 August 2016. It was through this Seminar that many in the Church drew closer to the word of God and emerged, fully charged and revitalized by the Spirit to continue the great work of building God’s Kingdom. When asked by church members on the arrangement, Senior Pastor Patrick Cheong replied that, “Throughout the 8 years, the Lord has blessed us tremendously and has always provided for our needs. It is only fitting that we have this Seminar together with our 8^th anniversary where we can draw closer to God and give thanks for all He has done for us.

The Intercessory Prayer Seminar, which was led by Reverend Dr Margaret Seaward, was conducted with this current world’s busy pace of life in mind. We are always too busy for everything and all of us face an everyday challenge for having to contend with the quotidian ‘things of this world’. Sometimes, many of us even wish that we had 48 hours instead of 24 hours daily in order to accomplish our daily tasks. Even so, the reality is that most of us would still have not enough time and the “I’m busy and have no time” excuse pops up regularly even when it’s time to spend time with God. If this happens and we still conveniently assume that God understands our situation, then we are in dire need of drawing closer to God.

Fear not for God has a solution and that is Prayer. Prayer is a predominant feature in our Christian walk and is our main weapon against all our troubles, but many people have overlooked or discounted this over time. We may not know it, but many Christians are fighting to stay “alive” spiritually and neglect the power of Prayer. Some may have lost that “first love” for God and feel that they can no longer communicate with God. Our problems may vary – some of us may have disobedient children, unreasonable colleagues, dire financial situations or unfaithful spouses but when is the last time did we use Prayer as a means to your problems?

To cap things off, the Church also had the privilege of celebrating Reverend Dr Fred Seaward and Reverend Dr Margaret Seaward’s 65th wedding anniversary during the Seminar. A Godly couple, they have been a blessing to many people — believers and non-believers alike and have also been a great role model for a Christ-centred marriage.

The Church prepared a cake lighted with 65 individual candles, and as the cake made its way to them, everyone knew it was a fitting tribute to such a Godly couple. As Church member, Brother Nigel put it, “To have served all their lives and still be on fire for God gives you encouragement; you know their preaching is real and everything that they say is a blessing.” The celebrations ended with a prayer for the Seawards and a scrumptious buffet lunch, as both visitors and Church members had a great time fellowshipping with one another.

When we turn to Prayer, we must recognise that God is not a magician or a Prayer answering machine that will make our problems disappear once we call unto Him. Instead, during Prayer, as pointed out by Reverend Dr Seaward during the Seminar, we will need to keep pounding on the door and not give up. Even if it takes 1 day, 1 year or 10 years, we need to press on for God has His perfect timing for everything and we know that the God we serve gives us an infinite hope and love. When we believe that Jesus is the King of kings, and He will answer our prayers, we no longer need to live in fear.

The Intercessory Prayer Seminar was a timely reminder to spend time interceding for others in Prayer and the Seminar attendees were blessed by the words brought forth by Reverend Seaward. It was a thought that was shared by Church member Sister Crystal, who said, “This Seminar had taught me about the importance of prayer and how it is our weapon against the evil one.” The Seminar also challenged the Church members to pray earnestly to see more souls ushered into the Kingdom of God. The Church prayed that God will continue to manifest His Power and Might to bring an endless revival to our church and that the Church is not looking for a momentary revival but one that is consistently burning.

God has been good to The People’s Church throughout the eight years since we have gone autonomous and God has always been faithful to us. From the time we came out of the bomb shelter in Hougang to our new location at LHK 3, God has cleared our every obstacle and given us His bountiful blessings. Every anniversary, we look back at the past and smile at the good times and not so good times.

We give thanks and all the glory to God for granting us an excellent time where we had delicious food not only for the body but also for the spirit. His love and grace abounds, praise and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

About Reverend Dr. Anthony Phua

The People’s Church will be having a programme on ageing gracefully 2nd session next Sunday for senior citizens.

Many of our senior citizens are at a high risk of being affected by many old age related issues. If you know anyone, we encourage you to bless them by inviting them or bringing them to this programme. The programme will be conducted by Fei Yue Family Service Centre/Community Services during our Sunday hokkien service.
